Again, I am surprised! I read my email from Earth911 this morning to find out that cigarette butts liter worldwide is about 1.69 billion pounds a year! How insane is that?! On top of that they are also a form of non-biodegradable litter so they are hear to stay - bummer.
Believe it or not according to the email, TerraCycle is teaming up with Sante Fe Tobacco Co. and promoting the opportunity for individuals and groups to collect the cigarette waste and send it in where they will turn around and produce things like shipping pallets, railroad ties, plastic lumber or (my favorite which is wonderfully ironic) ash trays!
